Through October 10
University Art Museum
The University of Virginia's Art Museum will display a photograph taken by Roger Sayre of the Memorial of Light, the twin blue beams of light rising on the site of the World Trade Center from March through April. Two other images by Patrick Witty and Adam Woodward on loan from Karen Van Lengen are also featured. Poems in response to September 11 written by U.Va. faculty and students accompany the display.

The University recognized the first anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, with a community event co-sponsored by the University of Virginia, U.Va.’s Student Council, Charlottesville-Albemarle Clergy Association, and You’ve Got A Friend Day Foundation.

Focusing on the lessons of September 11, the ceremony incorporated original music, readings, poetry, and interfaith prayers. The program was intended to provide a time and space to remember those who died in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and on the planes; to honor those emergency workers, living and dead, who braved danger that day; to reflect on the myriad ways we all were changed by the events of one year ago; and to celebrate the hope and healing spirit that inspire and sustain us still.
