How To Report A ProblemThe best way to report a problem is to send an e-mail message to abuse@virginia.edu and include a complete description of the problem. If e-mail isn't an option, call the ITC Help Desk at (804) 924-3731 and the Help Desk staff will be happy to take your complaint! Before anyone can respond to your complaint, you must provide as much information as possible. To learn more about how the Abuse Team responds to complaints, be sure to review the Abuse FAQs. The following categories describe the different kinds of information needed for a quick response to an abuse complaint. E-Mail and Mailing ListsFor complaints involving e-mail, be sure to save copies of all relevant messages. In your complaint, forward the complete message; including, all the headers and routing information. The Abuse Team needs this information to respond to the complaint. Complaints and/or questions about e-mail problems can be sent directly to postmaster@virginia.edu. NOTE: If your complaint is about receiving unwanted e-mail messages advertising various commercial "opportunities" (e.g., spam, multi-level marketing schemes, chain mail) you should consult the Abuse FAQs for tips on eliminating these messages. Also consult the FAQs concerning the potential to "catch a virus from e-mail" and various reports you may hear about this risk. Newsgroup PostsCut-and-paste a complete copy of the newsgroup post in your e-mail complaint; including, a list of all the newgroups in which the message appears. Complaints and/or questions about news posts and/or newsgroups can be sent directly to newsmaster@virginia.edu. Web PagesInclude the complete URL (the web address) for the web page you are reporting. Be sure to include a detailed description of the problem or policy you believe is being violated by this web page. You can send these complaints to webmaster@virginia.edu or to abuse@virginia.edu. |
