University Advancement helps ensure U.Va.'s future by engaging our constituents, telling the University's story, and inspiring the minds, hearts and generous support of those we serve. Below is a list of the departments within University Advancement and the leader or director of each.
The Office of the Senior Vice President for Advancement provides executive-level leadership and coordination of all University fundraising and constituent engagement programs.
The Principal Relationship Development (PRD) office nurtures relationships with high-capacity alumni, parents and friends with the purpose of developing intensive, complex relationships that lead to "ultimate" or" transformative" gifts.
To enhance the success of school, unit and University fundraising initiatives, University Development provides staff and information resources and. represents the University perspective in interactions with school/unit donors, prospects and volunteers, providing cohesiveness to the internal fundraising operations across the Grounds.
Individual Giving provides leadership in the areas of planned giving, parent giving, corporate and foundation relations and reunion giving and manages the gift agreement process
Gift Planning cultivates, solicits and manages planned gifts for schools and units.
Parent Giving identifies, cultivates and solicits current non-alumni parents for major gifts that benefit schools and units; identifies, cultivates and solicits parents for leadership annual gifts to the Parents Fund; coordinates with undergraduate schools on their parent major gift prospects; staffs the Parents Committee.
Corporate and Foundation Relations cultivates, solicits and manages regional, national and international corporate and foundation prospects.
Reunion Giving identifies, cultivates and solicits prospects that have the potential to make leadership annual gifts, and directs a reunion giving program that includes working with reunion giving committees.
Regional Development identifies, cultivates and solicits alumni, parents and friends on behalf of University schools and units.
Provides leadership for institutional fundraising priorities including the arts, faculty support, student support and the Jeffersonian Grounds Initiative.
Works closely with the Vice Provost for the Arts, develops fundraising strategies to support the arts across the University and the strategic plan for the arts, manages the Arts Council and serves as senior arts development representative for various arts volunteer boards. Collaborates with colleagues across Grounds and volunteers who support the arts efforts.
Leads fundraising efforts to support the renovation, restoration and conservation of the University's historic architectural and landscape masterpieces, including the Rotunda.
Community Learning and Organizational Effectiveness provides professional development, career development, and organizational development services to the U.Va. Advancement Community.
Engagement & Annual Giving strengthen the lifelong connections that alumni, parents and friends have with each other and the University.
U.Va. Global Networks creates links in more than 140 world-wide regions for all alumni, parents and friends to connect with U.Va. in their local communities. Eight hundred volunteer leaders plan and execute more than 1,200 events each year, ranging from cultural and educational enrichment to community volunteer service.
Lifetime Learning coordinates 150 faculty lectures and discussions and provides support for faculty participation with U. Va. Clubs and Cavalier Travels; implements U.Va. at Oxford and Jefferson Summer Symposium; and produces "Engaging the Mind," U.Va.'s public educational program in the Commonwealth.
Alumni and Parent Travel creates 15 to 20 unique experiences to travel destinations with U.Va. faculty members and professional local guides, who provide expertise, formal talks and insider's access; coordinates day excursions during Reunions; and collaborates with U.Va. Clubs to support short-term travel opportunities.
Develops communication strategy to increase participation and involvement and develops data analytics to assess return on investment and to inform programming efforts.
University Annual Giving promotes and recognizes cross-Grounds leadership annual giving; and provides direct marketing services on behalf of schools/units, as needed, and phone-based solicitations and stewardship through the Phonathon (Cavalier Connect).
In addition to providing administrative services to University Advancement, Advancement Services encompasses many areas which interact with the University Advancement community, including Donor and Constituent Relations, Prospect Development, Information Systems, Gift Accounting, Human Resources, and Communications.
Prospect Development provides research and analysis services to help identify and qualify potential major donors to the University, coordinates assignments of prospects to fundraisers across the University and maintains prospect data and donor files.
Information Systems manages Advance Web and Advancement Performance applications, which are the central University information and reporting applications supporting development and constituent relations activities across the Grounds.
Gift Accounting delivers quality gift processing and reporting services to donors, the development community and other University and foundation constituents, in accordance with University gift and accounting policies and in conformance with tax laws.
Donor and Constituent Relations is responsible for the centralized stewardship of the University's major donors, as well as the management of events, both nationally and internationally, especially when the University's president is involved.
Interactive Media maintains and supports the Online Engagement System (OES), a cloud-based software, as a service technology platform to promote participation by alumni, parents and friends in U.Va. activities and philanthropy; the team trains partners across Grounds to use the OES for specialized websites, targeted broadcast e-mail services, and online registration and donations forms.
Editorial and Design provides writing, editing, design and web content services for campaign, constituent and advancement communications, pan-University publications such as the President's Report and the State of the University fact book.
Human Resources provides recruitment, talent management and career development services to the U.Va. advancement community. Within central Advancement, the office provides workforce planning; organizational and job design; talent planning, recruitment, selection and retention strategies. The unit also manages performance management and employee recognition programs, and offers consulting services for team facilitation, leadership and business operations improvements.
