Regional focus: Eastern United States (Late Woodland and Contact periods).

Topical interests: Indigenous landscapes, historical archaeology, artifact repatriation.

My research seeks to understand Native American landscapes of the region. My dissertation research examines Monacan Indian landscapes in Central Virginia from AD 800 to 1700, addressing how the later construction of Euro-American landscapes in the same locations has shaped oral and written histories about, and archaeological interpretations of, Late Woodland and Contact Period Monacan peoples.

I have collaborated with the Monacan Ancestral Museum and the National Park Service to help repatriate a large artifact collection to the Monacans. I also have a strong background in historical archaeology and served as curator of archaeological collections in the Department of Archaeology at Monticello from 2002 to 2004. I received my BA with highest distinction from the University of Virginia, where I was a double major in Archaeology and Environmental Science and also earned a minor in Physics.
