Archaeology Regional focus: Egypt. Topical interests:Predynastic Egypt, State formation, household archaeology. Over the past four years I have been working at a large monumental Early dynastic site and a small Predynastic village. Through these experiences I have developed an interest in the in the interplay between different socio-political strata in formative periods, particularly the articulation of small village sites with the processes of state formation in the ancient Egyptian context. I intend to investigate whether the small peripheral sites were economically and politically (as well as ideologically and stylistically) integrated with any of the larger known political centers during the Nagada II period. I am also participating in a project which focuses on a diachronic look
at the cultural "borderland" between Egypt and Nubia and a reevaluation
of its status as such.
