Cultural Anthropology Regional Focus: Europe, Middle East, Cyprus. Topical interests: Power, conflict, violence, narrative, space, and identity formation My research is on Cyprus, where the enduring ethnic conflict that divides the island has entered into a European phase with the islands partial accession into the EU. I am interested in how the state(s) in Cyprus become visible in contests over the meanings of space, including state sanctioned monuments, natural landscapes and landmarks, and the apparatus of the border itself. How do these evoke and confirm for people particular histories that play a role in the conflict? | |
