Mark Kutney has responsibility to determine the nature of historic fabric; to oversee daily maintenance activities in the Academical Village and other historic facilities; and, to develop training programs for all crafts working on Central Grounds historic structures.  He has a BS in Biochemistry from Pennsylvania State University and is pursuing an MA in Conservation through Antioch University and the Smithsonian Institution. He was employed as a conservator by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in 1995. In that capacity, he conducted examinations of and prescribed treatments for buildings, architectural elements, wooden and metal objects in the Colonial Williamsburg collections. His skills in analyzing historic building materials and construction methods will help to inform future renovation and restoration projects, and will ensure that the significant buildings on the Grounds are treated in a manner which prolongs their usefulness and beauty.
