MEMORIAL TREES
BACKGROUND
The planting of trees on the Grounds of the University is a long-standing
tradition to commemorate members from our academic community and
their contributions. Many of the unusual tree species and spectacular
mature specimens that can be enjoyed today are memorial trees
that were planted officially by the University and privately by
alumni and friends of the University.
OFFICIAL POLICY STATEMENT ON MEMORIAL TREES
In order to enhance the beauty, amenity and utility of the Grounds,
the University welcomes the donation of memorial trees dedicated
to specific persons. The Arboretum Committee will decide on the
appropriateness of the species and location in each instance.
In addition the University will from time to time designate memorial
trees honoring members of the University community who have made
significant contributions to the life of the University. The Committee
will keep lists of these trees and their donors. Plaques identifying
memorials trees are deemed to be inappropriate for the Grounds.
