As the Director of University Planning from 1965 to 1991,
Werner K.Sensbach led the University's design and planning
operations during one of the most significant periods
of expansion that saw the creation of the North Grounds
and Science and Engineering precincts. |

With degrees from the Universities at Heidelberg, Karlsruhe,
and the University of North Carolina, he worked in architectural
offices in Europe and New York and served as the city of Roanoke's
Director of Planning from 1960-65. In addition to teaching courses
in urban history at the School of Architecture until 1980, Mr.
Sensbach served on the Charlottesville City Planning Commission
for eight years.
