2011 UVA Sustainability Assessment September 14, 2011: The Office of the Architect is pleased to announce the release of the 2011 UVA Sustainability Assessment. This 2011 Assessment updates the original 2006 UVA Sustainability Assessment and provides a comprehensive inventory of the University's progress towards sustainability in the last five years. The Assessment is organized into three broad categories: Governance & Culture, Academics & Learning, and Management Centers, which are further divided into seven focus areas: Land Use, Built Environment, Transportation, Dining, Energy & Carbon, Water, and Waste & Recycling. The development of the 2011 Assessment began in the summer of 2010, when nearly 200 faculty, staff, and students responded to surveys pertaining to the nine areas above. Several UVA subject matter experts used the survey results and information gained from other sources to draft specific portions of the Assessment, which were then reviewed by UVA peers before being compiled into a single document. The draft Sustainability Assessment was first distributed to the Presidential Committee on Sustainability in March 2011. After a 4-month period of review and comment, the Committee unanimously approved the 2011 UVA Sustainability Assessment in July. The primary distribution method for the Assessment is digital. To enhance the online viewing experience, the Assessment is available in Issuu, a realistic online viewer, and as a traditional Adobe PDF file (10 MB). For those considering printing the document, please try the Issuu viewer first, as it preserves the full-bleed images and rich colors that are lost on most prints. If still printing, please before sure to adjust printed settings to double-sided. The 2011 UVA Sustainability Assessment is focused on activities that have occurred since the 2006 UVA Sustainability Assessment was released. For the complete history of sustainability accomplishments at UVA, please also consult the 2006 UVA Sustainability Assessment (link to PDF of report).
