UVA Sustainability Assessment The UVA Sustainability Assessment (link to PDF of report) was designed to identify baseline performance, recognize accomplishments and stimulate informed discussion on the opportunities that lie ahead. The Strategy for Sustainability, detailed at the outset of the report, offers a recommended direction for moving the University toward a more sustainable future. Hosted by the Office of the Architect, the UVA Sustainability Assessment is supported by the University's Administration. Developed with Facilities Management and Environmental Health & Safety, the Case Statement (insert link to case statement) and assessment process was introduced to more than 55 staff, faculty and student representatives during a series of 4 introductory workshops hosted in late June 2006. During July and August 2006, through nine online surveys and select interviews, involving more two-hundred University stakeholders, an inventory of UVA sustainability initiatives in the areas of Governance & Culture, Academics & Learning, and Management Centers , was undertaken. As an academic institution UVA has the opportunity to build on its success, and to advance its commitment to environmentally responsible, socially just and economically sound decisions and actions. In gaining a comprehensive understanding of UVA's sustainability initiatives, the University is better positioned to leverage activities, promote coordination, improve performance and demonstrate national leadership.
