Leslie A. Rahuba
B.S.F.S., Georgetown University, 1989
Lecturer Director, Visual Resources Collection
Leslie Rahuba’s art historical interests are based in the arts of Russia; her master’s studies focused on the 20th Century Russian Avant-Garde movement, while her Ph.D. work concentrated on medieval Russia and its icons. In 1995 she assumed the role of Director of Visual Resources, a repository of both digital and slide images that serves the McIntire Department of Art.
Ms. Rahuba introduced the first web-based digital image study pages to the department in the fall of 1995. The success of this presentation method eventually led to a Teaching +Technology Initiative fellowship, with which she developed a database system for both the cataloguing and the delivery of images via the web. A shared fellowship with Professor Larry Goedde, this project has had far-reaching effects on the digital presence of the department and its resulting product continues to be used today. Ms. Rahuba also played an instrumental role in establishing the departmental presence on the web.
Ms. Rahuba has presented papers at the national conferences of the Visual Resources Association, and works collaboratively with other University image collections and interests. She remains especially interested in how new technologies are changing the methodology of teaching art history and looks forward to the challenges ahead.
