Marion E. Roberts

Ph.D., University of Chicago, 1970
M.A., Columbia University, 1962
B.A., Duke University, 1960

Marion Roberts has been teaching in the McIntire Department of Art at the University of Virginia since 1968. She has taught a wide variety of courses on the art of the Middle Ages. Her special interest is in Gothic art and architecture, particularly in England. Ms. Roberts also has developed a website as a teaching and study resource, The Salisbury Project, an electronic-based extensive photographic archive of Salisbury cathedral that includes images of the town, Old Sarum and parish churches. Students of English Gothic art and architecture inevitably encounter the activities and publications of English antiquaries from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. This encounter led Ms. Roberts to a study of the illustrations in the publications of Sir William Dugdale.
