Studio Summer Program Abroad in Italy Each summer, the Studio Department offers courses in Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. The program is designed to give students the opportunity to study photography and either contemporary art history or drawing and painting in Italy’s famed region of Tuscany. Through class work and numerous field trips, students experience the sites of the region within the context of their own work and creativity. During their time in Tuscany, the student’s room and board is provided by the Santa Chiara Study Center, a converted girls academy on the edge of a picturesque, small hill-top town. Students stay in hotels while traveling to Rome and Venice. The summer abroad program allows students to earn UVa credits and UVa grades, not simply transfer credit. Upon completion, students receive six UVa credits. These credits count towards UVa graduation requirements. In addition, all courses (with the exception of ARTS 407) can count for Studio Art major requirements in the College of Arts and Sciences. For additional information contact the Director of the Studio Italy Program, William Wylie. See photos of our recent trip.
