The Aunspaugh Fifth Year Fellowship Many of U.Va’s very talented art students have professional aspirations. Experience has shown that a fifth-year program of intensive studio production and service to the Art Department helps these students gain admission into good graduate programs. The primary purpose of the program is to help students develop their portfolios for admission to graduate school. The Aunspaugh Fifth Year Fellowship enables a U.Va. student who has an undergraduate degree to spend a year of intensive effort in a studio area within the McIntire Department of Art. Past Aunspaugh Fellows have gone on to the very best graduate programs in studio art including Yale, U.C.L.A., Boston University, the University of Iowa, the San Francisco Art Institute, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Tyler School of Art.
