What this tool is primarily used for:

The Pug Mill is for rehydrating or remixing wet and dry clay

 

ALWAYS USE APPROPRIATE PPE WHEN USING THIS MACHINE

SAFETY FOR THIS MACHINE:

  • DO NOT operate while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication
  • SECURE any loose fitting jewelry or clothing, tie back long hair - they can get caught in moving parts
  • The motor of the mill is EXTREMELY strong even though it is moving VERY slow. DO NOT EVER put your hands inside the hopper when the mill is on
  • DO NOT push clay into the hopper with either your hands or any tool other than the Pug Mill tamper
  • The safety stop bar must be emgaged or pug mill will not turn on
  • REFER to instruction manual for further information (see Studio Technician)

OTHER THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN USING THIS MACHINE:

  • The tamper slides back and forth and moves toward and away from you, covering 100% of the hopper interior
  • If you need to scrape any clay off the tamper or the inside of the hopper, the pug mill MUST be turned off
  • The motor of the mill is EXTREMELY strong even though it is moving VERY slow -KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF THE HOPPER UNLESS THE MACHINE IS UNPLUGGED
  • For maxmium amount of mixing action, add all moist clay into the hoppe at the end closest to the motor
  • It takes about 3-5 minutes for clay to process from the motor end to the discharge end
  • If the clay comes out sticking to your hand, reprocess it with some drier clay
  • If the clay comes out to dry, reprocess it with more water or wet clay
  • Remember to close the hopper lid and replace the discharge cap for the exit chute when you are done
