This week at the Museum

Museum reopens September 12—

The Museum is closed for major renovation this summer and reopens September 12 with two special exhibitions: Thomas Jefferson's Academical Village: The Creation of an Architectural Masterpiece and The Expanding Eye: Art Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe .

In support of the Academical Village exhibition the Museum has launched a new blog, Building a Living Legacy: Jefferson's Academical Village, comprised of three sections: The Detectives, The Builders, and The Legacy. Join the discussion >

Additionally, Treasures Rediscovered: Chinese Stone Sculpture from the Sackler Collections at Columbia University in January 2010.

The University of Virginia Library, in conjunction with the Art Museum and a Roman Numismatics class in the Classical Art and Archaeology program, has scanned nearly 500 coins of Greek and Roman origin for study and research.
