This contest
is open to writers from third grade through adult who visit the University
of Virginia Art Museum. A list of the Writer's Eye art selections
and contest entry forms are available at the front desk of the Museum.
What
to Submit:
Write an
original and previously unpublished story or poem inspired by one
of the Writer's Eye selections on view at the University of Virginia Art
Museum.
Submit
one entry only. This may be prose of 1,000 words or less, or poetry
not to exceed two standard typewritten pages.
How
to Format Your Entry:
Type and single-space entries
- Grades
3-5 Poetry: Submit three (3) copies of your poem.
- Grades
3-5 Prose: Submit four (4) copies of your story.
- Grades
6-8 Poetry & Prose: Submit four (4) copies of your poem or story.
- Grades
9-12 Poetry & Prose: Submit two (2) copies of your poem or story.
- Adult/University
Poetry & Prose: Submit two (2) copies of your poem or story.
- Paper
Clip all copies together
- Staple
the completed entry form to the front of the top copy, information facing
out.
Type on
all pages you submit:
- Title
of your poem or story
- Name
of the artwork that inspired your entry
- Do
not type your name on any copy. To ensure impartial judging, your
name should appear on the entry form only.

When,
Where, and How to Submit Your Entry:
- When:
Entries must be received at the Museum no later than 5:00
p.m., Friday, November 21, 2003. They may be hand-delivered or mailed.

Note:
- Failure
to comply with these rules may disqualify your entry.
- Writers
give permission to the University Art Museum to publish entries.
- Manuscripts
will not be returned.
- The
Museum reserves the right to eliminate a category if entries
are insufficient in number or quality.

Notification
of Awards:
1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention winners only will
be notified. To assist in the publication of the anthology, winners
may be asked to re-submit their entries by email or disk. An awards
reception will be held in early 2004, date to be announced.
