Increasing access to the collections

Object study
The Museum's collection is available to enhance and support the curriculum of University courses from all departments. U.Va. Faculty may reserve the Iron Gate Study Gallery for seminars and to make works available from the collection for research, class papers and exams. Faculty who are familiar with the Museum's collection may request specific objects from the collection. If you are unfamiliar with the Museum's collection, our curatorial staff will assist you with selections which will complement your course syllabus. ARTstor
In collaboration with the McIntire Department of Art Visual Resources Collection and the Fiske-Kimball Fine Arts Library, the Museum is digitizing its collections for online teaching and research through ARTstor Images for Education & Scholarship. When launched in spring 2009, U.Va. faculty, students, and staff may access images and descriptions of Old Master prints, American and European paintings and sculpture, and modern prints, as well as African, Asian, and Native American art. www.artstor.org

ARTemis
Curatorial and digitization staff have posted 765 object records including 500 images to ARTemis, a Cold Fusion searchable database developed through a U.Va. Teaching + Technology Initiative project to increase accessibility to the collections. nmc2.itc.virginia.edu/ARTemis/uvam/
