Community Docents
The Fralin community docents are trained in a variety of museum education techniques, including the inquiry method. After completion of the required Docent Training Course, they lead tours for school groups and community organizations, and assist with the annual Writer's Eye competition.
As a group, docents occasionally take field trips to other museums, and attend both regional and national museum education conferences.
The spring 2013 Docent Training Course will be held on Fridays, 9 am - 12 pm, February 1 - April 9. The application deadline is January 4, 2013. Interested community members are encouraged to apply.

Eyes on Art
Designed in partnership with the Central and Western Virginia chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, this innovative program uses art to engage people with Alzheimer's in meaningful discussions. Specially trained docents lead individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers on small group tours when the Museum is closed to the public.
VIA tour program
Students from the Virginia Institute on Autism (VIA) are invited to experience the Museum through private tours. Each visit is facilitated by both a Museum docent and a VIA teacher, who tailor the tour to meet the student's individual learning goals.
