Docent-led group tours
Interactive tours of our special exhibitions and permanent collection galleries are offered by University student and community docents trained in the inquiry method of museum education. These tours are designed to increase visual literacy and art appreciation. They can also be planned to reflect subjects addressed in the classroom, or the specific interests of the visitors.
Families explore a special exhibition or work of art with a studio instructor and then create art related to what they see and learn. These hands-on activities are for young artists, ages 4-12, and their families/caregivers.
Each spring, the Museum's Early Visions program offers a six-week course, which pairs University student docents in mentoring relationships with Boys & Girls Club members. This year docents have planned creative activities that help the students explore aspects of the upcoming special exhibition, Thomas Jefferson's Academical Village: The Creation of an Architectural Masterpiece.
