Advisory Board
Members advise the Museum's director in the
areas of collections, strategic planning,
architecture for the new facility, and fund
raising and provide essential financial
support.
As this is a time of transition for the Museum, the role of the Advisory Board becomes even more important. Terry Lockhart is excited to be part of this time of growth as chair of the Advisory Board.
“The University has recognized the importance of the Arts to
the educational life of its students by creating the position
of vice provost for the arts,” she said. “But the Museum not only
serves the University community and the scholarship that goes
on here, it also serves the community of Charlottesville. I like
the idea that we're going to have an outstanding, interesting,
vibrant art museum to serve this community.”

The Advisory Board Collections Committee plays a central role in the acquisitions process. The committee's sage advice helps to guide the Museum's broadening collections. |

Lockhart brings many years of administrative experience with non-profit organizations and an understanding of the University to the job of helping the Board work efficiently to address the needs of the Museum and generating enthusiasm for the new building project.
"I'm also very excited at the opportunity that the University will have to garner national recognition for the work that scholars do here by putting on national shows, "Lockhart added. "It will energize art history and inform all of the other academic disciplines at the University, because art goes a long way toward illuminating life."
