Things to know before visiting
Gallery Rules exist to provide an enjoyable, safe environment for all Museum visitors and to minimize risks to the art collections on view. This policy is applicable to all our constituents. Please help us protect the art on display and make the Museum a pleasant experience for all visitors.
While in the Galleries
Visitors are asked not to touch works of art. Even the slightest fingerprint contains destructive chemicals that endanger even the hardest surfaces. Your consideration helps us preserve the works on display for all visitors, present and future.
Food (including candy and gum) and beverages are not allowed in the galleries.
Sketching in the Galleries
Visitors who would like to draw or write in the galleries must use pencil only. For your convenience, pencils may be borrowed from the reception desk.
Coats, Backpacks and other items
We understand how important your belongings are to you and share your concern for them. For your safety and the safety of our objects, shopping bags, backpacks, strollers, baby back-carriers, umbrellas, and all purses, briefcases, or packages measuring greater than 8"x13"x16", must be left at the reception desk before entering the galleries.
Cell Phones
Please be courteous to other Museum visitors and silence your cell phone during your visit.
Photography
If you are interested in photographing in the Museum, please see a security officer first. As a rule, photography, including the use of camera cell phones, is not permitted in any special exhibition or for certain objects on loan to the Museum. Non-flash photography of works in the permanent collection is allowed for personal use only.
