Docent-led group tours
Interactive tours of our special exhibitions and permanent collection galleries are offered by University student and community docents trained in the inquiry method of museum education. These tours are designed to increase visual literacy and art appreciation. They can also be planned to reflect subjects addressed in the classroom, or the specific interests of the visitors. Tours for Writer’s Eye, the Museum’s annual art/writing competition, are available in the fall.
Tours are available for groups of 6 or more and must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance. To book a tour, please email the Museum’s Education Department or call 434.243.2050.
Self-guided tours
The Museum invites families to take their own tours of the Museum, using self-guided tour booklets available for loan at the Museum’s front desk. The self-guided tour booklets are prepared by U.Va. student interns, who research the pieces on view in the galleries and receive academic credit for their work.
