Exhibition Title: Honoré Sharrer

Description:

Over six decades Honoré Sharrer has created an extraordinary body of work, With meticulas draftsmanship and high-key color her paintings treat myth and allegory as everyday events, engaging unlikely pople and objects in witty juxtaposition. Working closely with the artist, the University of Virginia Art Museum is organizing a survey of Ms. Sharrer's work for display in Charlottesville from November 12 through December 23, 2005.

This is a long overdue opportunity to recognize this distinguished American woman painter witha a complete look at her oeuvre. Her work has rarely been seen in recent years until her 2002 exhibition at Spanierman Gallery in New York.

The exhibition contains around fifty paintings, most of which are small in size, dating from the 1940s to 2003. They will be borrowed from private collections, institutions and the artist. A catalogue will be produced, fifty copies of which will be provided with the exhibition.
