of work, With meticulas draftsmanship and high-key color her paintings
treat myth and allegory as everyday events, engaging unlikely pople
and objects in witty juxtaposition. Working closely with the artist,
the University of Virginia Art Museum is organizing a survey of
Ms. Sharrer's work for display in Charlottesville from November
12 through December 23, 2005.
This
is a long overdue opportunity to recognize this distinguished American
woman painter witha a complete look at her oeuvre. Her work has
rarely been seen in recent years until her 2002 exhibition at Spanierman
Gallery in New York.
The
exhibition contains around fifty paintings, most of which are small
in size, dating from the 1940s to 2003. They will be borrowed from
private collections, institutions and the artist. A catalogue will
be produced, fifty copies of which will be provided with the exhibition.
