Summer Arts @ the Museum
Summer Arts 2008
The Museum's annual arts academy, for rising
4th- 12th graders, combines high-quality studio
programs with explorations of the Museum's
summer shows. This year's theme is “speed”, in conjunction with the special exhibition, LOOK HERE Speed from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Electives vary each year and may include
music, movement/dance, digital arts, and much
more.
The program's goal is to connect art-interested youth with the inspirational possibilities of experiencing and creating artwork, mentored by arts educators and professional artists. Approximately 50% of our Summer Arts youth receive full scholarships!
Summer Arts is made possible by the sponsorship of the the University of Virginia Art Museum, the Thomas L. Piper, Jr.
Education Endowment, the MSW Foundation, Virginia National Bank, Whole Foods, and the Chi Phi Fraternity at the University of Virginia.

Advanced Academy July 21-25
The mission of Summer Arts @ the Museum is to provide an environment that encourages young artists to explore and create Art. This year, Summer Arts will focus on the concept of Looking @ Art. Students will develop their critical eye by Looking @ Art to assess historical context, identify formal components and extract meaning. Working with professional artists and university students, young artists will explore the use of drawing, painting, digital photography, printmaking, and computers to create art that conveys their own meaning.
