The Nature Conservancy
The Global Freshwater Program “leads by example” to promote sustainable water use practices and policies. More than 500 field teams around the planet are working hand-in-hand with local governments, corporations, and communities to demonstrate best practices and appropriate technologies for using water in the most efficient, clean, and sustainable manner possible. The Nature Conservancy is a global leader in designing finance mechanisms called “Water Funds” that generate financial support for watershed protection, to the benefit of downstream cities and their water supplies. The organization has also advanced scientific approaches to defining how much water must be left in rivers to sustain their ecological health.
