Bioethics Minor Program - toolkit links and course syllabi for commonly taught courses in the Program:

BIOETHICS AND RELATED COURSES, Spring, 2010

This is an initial rough culling of bioethics minor-related courses for the upcoming semester.  The courses are arranged according to our grid of minor requirements.  A more complete listing, including some course descriptions, will soon be available on our website at:  www.bioethics.virginia.edu.   If anyone spots a relevant course in the COD that is not listed below, please contact Prof. Arras at jda3a@virginia.edu.

Sorry about the weird formatting.  It's becoming more and more difficult to cut and paste from the COD!

BIOE 8110 Clinical Bioethics (erroneously listed currently as 8100)

Thurs 10-12 noon, Barringer Wing ( Medical School)

(Although listed at the 800 level, this course is really more in the 400-500 level range. Recommended for 4 th years with an interest in clinical, rather than policy, issues.)

 Related Electives:

Students who wish to count a related elective towards their bioethics minor should make every effort to choose a course that is actually related to their other courses in bioethics.  For example, a biology course in Human Genetics would mesh well with a bioethics course in Genetics and the Law, or an HES course on Healthcare Policy would mesh well with a bioethics course on Justice & Health Care. Free-floating “related” electives – e.g., a course on “Biology of Infectious Disease” unconnected to other work a student might be doing in public health ethics – will generally not count towards the minor. Some non-core electives are free standing—i.e., they don’t need to be matched with a core course (e.g., Christianity and Science, Business Ethics, etc.) If in doubt, contact Prof. Arras.
