I am interested in the effect of host social structure on the evolution of symbionts. I am hypothesizing that there are greater genetic covariances (and therefore greater selection for benevolence) between social hosts and their symbionts than between solitary hosts and their symbionts. To address this hypothesis I am studying interactions between social and solitary sweat bees and their nematode symbionts.
