| Blandy is less than 5 miles from the Shenandoah River, the largest river in the Shenandoah Valley. Students
have the opportunity to go on an all day canoe trip during one of the
first weekends of the program. |

| The Blue Ridge and
Appalachian Mountains are
right next door. Blandy is less than 10 miles from the Appalachian
Trail, the 2000 mile walking trail that runs from Georgia to Maine.

| Several outdoor concerts
take place at Blandy's Margaret Byrd Stimpson Amphitheater
every
summer. Students help set up the concerts and are encouraged
to perform during
open mic night, the last concert of the summer. |

| The summer also includes
visits to other fields stations, such as the Smithsonian's Center for
Environmental Research and Conservation and the University of
Virginia's Mountain Lake Biological Station. With metropolitan
Washington DC 70 miles away, students often explore the life of the
city. |
