Stop 1: The Quarters

The Quarters

On the State and National Registers of Historic Places, the Quarters is believed to have served as the slaves' quarters for the adjoining plantation which remains privately owned.

The building dates to about the 1830s, and an addition was added in the 1940s to provide dormitories for students.

In addition to housing undergraduate and graduate students on research assignments, the Quarters is also home to the Arboretum staff offices, a science lab, library, kitchen and more.
