I. CONSENT AGENDA
A. CONFLICT OF INTEREST EXEMPTION (UPSTATE BIOTECHNOLOGY,
INC.) -- Approves an exemption from the Virginia Conflict
of Interests Act to allow the University of Virginia to
enter into a contract with Upstate Biotechnology, Inc.,
for research in and commercialization of bioreagents.
B. CONFLICT OF INTEREST EXEMPTION (DIRECT GENE, INC.)
-- Approves an exemption from the Virginia Conflict of Interests
Act to allow the University of Virginia to enter into a
contract with DirectGene, Inc., for development of gene
therapies for cancer and other diseases.
II.
REPORTS BY THE VICE PRESIDENT AND PROVOST FOR THE HEALTH SYSTEM
A. UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA MEDICAL CENTER FINANCIAL REPORT
(as of January 31, 2000) -- Mr. Fitzgerald will report on
the Medical Center's financial statement as of December
31, 1999, and comment on trends observed as of January 31,
2000.
B. MEDICAL CENTER COST REDUCTION -- Mr. Carter will
report on the implementation of the process improvement
efforts.
C. VICE PRESIDENT'S REMARKS -- Dr. Cantrell will
report on significant developments impacting the Health
System that have occurred since the last meeting.
