I. REPORTS BY THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS

A. COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES UPDATE -- The Director of Student Health, Dr. Turner, will report on the progress of the merger of the Counseling Center and Learning Needs Evaluation Center with the psychological services unit of the Department of Student Health. The new unit is called Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and creates a single point of entry for students in need of assessment and psychological services.

B. SUICIDE PREVENTION ACTIVITIES -- Ms. Virginia Wright, Clinical Psychologist in the Department of Student Health, will describe the University's Suicide Prevention Program, which was begun in September, 1996 and endowed by Lyell Clay, an alumnus in Charleston, West Virginia. The rate of suicide among adolescents and young adults has increased sharply over the course of recent decades, such that youth suicide is now a major public health concern.
