CONSENT AGENDA
-
POLICY REVISION -- Approval of revision of two policies referred
by the Ad Hoc Committee on Policy Reform.
- A.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION POLICY: This policy (developed in 1976)
describes how students participate in the governance of the University.
Some provisions of the original policy are no longer necessary
because of the Freedom of Information Act and because this policy
which predates the inclusion of a student member as a representative
on the Board of Visitors. This action will rescind this policy.
- B.
STANDING POLICY ON ADMINISTRATION OF ATHLETICS AND THE ADVISORY
COUNCIL ON ATHLETICS: This policy (developed in 1970) describes
the supervision of the Athletic Department and the membership
of the Athletic Department's Advisory Council. Some provisions
of this policy are not consistent with current practice. This
action will update the policy.

REPORTS BY THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS
- A.
VICE PRESIDENT'S REMARKS -- University Mediation Services will
remain a subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee.
- B.
NEWCOMB HALL RENOVATION - Newcomb Hall is in the final stages
of a major renovation project. This facility serves as the University's
student union building and is a focal point for undergraduate
student life. This report will describe the final stages of this
project and plans to reoccupy this facility.
- C.
CAREER PLANNING AND PLACEMENT ACTIVITIES - One measure of a University's
strength is the degree to which it successfully places its graduates
in the marketplace of jobs and graduate programs. University of
Virginia graduates have been among the most competitive in the
nation. This presentation will describe placement activities and
some of the situations graduating students are facing in the job
market.

REPORT BY THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
- STATUS
REPORT: ATHLETICS CAPITAL PROJECTS -- The Department of Athletics
has enjoyed great success with its fundraising efforts. This report
will review the successfully completed capital projects and describe
current fundraising programs.
