For the year ended June 30, 1997, the University received sponsored program awards totaling $160 million, representing a 13-percent increase from June 30, 1996. The Department of Health and Human Services continued as the University's major source of awards, accounting for 46 percent of the total. The Medical School received approximately 55 percent of fiscal year awards, followed by Arts & Sciences at 20 percent and Engineering at 17 percent. Awards received included $32 million for indirect costs, a 13-percent increase from 1996.
