REPORTS BY THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS
- A.
ALCOHOL TASK FORCE - As discussed at the January 23, 1998 meeting
of the Board of Visitors, alcohol abuse is the number one public
health hazard for students at the University of Virginia. To address
this problem, the University-Wide Task Force on Alcohol Abuse
was appointed by President Casteen to study the complex issues
involved and to develop a specific plan for dealing with alcohol
abuse at the University of Virginia. This report will describe
the final recommendations of the Task Force.
- B.
SUMMER HONOR TRIALS -- The Honor Committee will be conducting
trials this summer. This change will help the Committee work through
on-going cases and improve service to students. This report will
describe how the summer trials will be conducted.
- C.
FRATERNITY AND SORORITY RUSH -- The Dean of Students will report
on the decision to schedule fraternity and sorority rush near
the beginning of the spring semester. This decision has important
implications for first year student programming and activities.
- D.
ORIENTATION TASK FORCE -- Earlier this year, the Vice President
for Student Affairs appointed a Task Force to review the University's
orientation program. The charge to this Task Force was to review
orientation programs at peer institutions and make recommendations
on ways to improve the University's program. This report will
highlight the recommendations of the Orientation Task Force.
