POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN EPITHELIAL DIFFERENTIATION AND RENEWAL

Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia

A postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Laurie laboratory at the University of Virginia to investigate epithelial differentiation. Successful applicants will have opportunities to participate in a number of new and/or ongoing studies that include:

  • Identification of the lacritin signaling receptor
  • Interactions of the signaling receptor with lacritin, syndecan-1 and heparanase
  • siRNA depletion studies of receptor
  • mutation studies of receptor
  • Initiated crystallization of lacritin receptor complex
  • Understanding how lacritin targeting regulates epithelial differentiation and renewal

The Department of Cell Biology and the University of Virginia provide an exceptional, highly-interactive environment for the study of the cellular basis of developmental mechanisms. Together with other members of the Morphogenesis and Regenerative Medicine Institute at the University of Virginia, we are applying cutting-edge technologies and approaches to the problem of epithelial differentiation and renewal.

Successful candidates for Postdoctoral Research Associate positions will have a Ph.D. in biology or other bio-medically related field, and a demonstrated interest in cell and developmental biology. Post-doctoral experience in a research laboratory setting and familiarity with syndecan biochemistry and cell culture systems preferred. Familiarity with basic biochemical and molecular biological methods typically associated with contemporary cell biology is assumed. Interest in GPCRs and facility with receptor binding, siRNA depletion and mitogenesis experiments required. Experience in writing papers and a history of presentation at professional meetings is strongly desired. Applicants at this level should also have experience supervising students and laboratory technical staff
