Corrosion of metals causes increased costs to virtually all industries due to plant downtime, loss of product, loss of efficiency, contamination, and overdesign. Most companies either do not have in-house corrosion expertise, or the in-house experts are overwhelmed with work already. Many companies do not know where to seek assistance for corrosion issues. The Center for Electrochemical Science and Engineering (CESE) offers corrosion and electrochemical testing service, with a particular emphasis on assisting Virginia industry with rapid-turnaround. The kinds of services the CESE provides to outside companies and organizations include electrochemical testing for material or inhibitor selection, assessment of proposed mitigation or management strategies for capital equipment, stress-corrosion susceptibility testing, and mechanical testing.
