Visiting Professor

The Gwathmey Visiting Professor for 2002/3 is Professor John T. Yates, Jr. of the Departments of Chemistry and Physics & Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh. Professor Yates is one of the foremost surface scientists in the world and his interests and activities are wide ranging. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the American Physical Society, and has received all the surface science awards possible from the American Chemical Society and American Vacuum Society, along with too many other awards and honors to list here! Professor Yates will be at UVa for most of the Fall of 2002 and Spring of 2003. On September 13th he will give the Gwathmey Lecture in Chemistry Rm. 304 at 4 pm. entitled, "The Pursuit of the Active Site in Surface Chemistry - From Gwathmey to 2002". Immediately following the lecture there will be a reception for Professor Yates.
