About the Child Development Centers

The University of Virginia Academic Division operates two child care centers to address the needs of University faculty, staff, and students as well as the employees of the hospital, University-affiliated foundations and contractors.

The University of Virginia Child Development Center was established in 1991 at 180 Copeley Road to accommodate infants through prekindergarten. In 2011 it expanded into two centers. The Copeley Road location was transitioned into a school to teach children two years old through prekindergarten.  The second location at 408 Earhart Street was established to cater to the needs of infants and toddlers.

The University of Virginia Child Development Centers are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  The Centers earned this designation by having a lower child and teacher ratio, offering an outstanding program, and hiring the finest staff.

The Copeley Center also participates in the Virginia Star Quality Initiative which reflects the Center's commitment to quality beyond expectation or requirements.
