The goal of the English project is to assist K-12 teachers across the wide range of subjects and skills that they are called upon to master: British and American literature and world classics in translation; poetry, prose, and dramatic literature; composition, grammar, and usage; contemporary literary and cultural theory. Accordingly, we have created opportunities for teachers to take summer seminars, pursue graduate degrees and individual projects, attend workshops and conferences, and study abroad. Because of the large number of English teachers, we have been able to offer programs for individual school systems as well as for teachers gathered from across the state. And the breadth of language arts curricula often leads us to invite English teachers to programs in art, Classics, and history, as well as in foreign literatures in translation.
