Recent Accolades of Cognitive Science MajorsSummer 2009Lizzie Bendycki ('10 DMP) received a Leach Foundation Award through the College Science Scholars program to do summer research in the Coan Lab (Dept Psychology) and to get a head start on her DMP. She also presented a poster entitled "Prefrontal asymmetry moderates relationship between self-reported empathy and depression" with Mandy Steiner at the Tufts University Conference in Emerging Trends in Behavioral, Social, Affective and Cognitive Neurosciences in June 09. Will Hawkes ('10 DMP) received a Small Research Award form UVA College of Arts and Sciences to help fund his research in the Lynch lab (Department of Psychiatry), examining the novel combination of two medicines in potential treatment aids for alcohol addiction, taking into consideration level of alcohol dependence as well as genetic predisposition to alcohol addiction. Courtney Filippi ('11) participated in an Undergraduate Summer Research and Training internship at the University of Maryland College Park, working with Dr. Jane Clark in her Cognitive Neuroscience lab. At the end of summer, she presented the findings of her project entitled "Action Understanding: An EEG Analysis of Mirror Neuron Activity in Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder" as a poster and a powerpoint presentation to her peers. Katherine Lubarsky ('09 DMP) co-authored a paper, "Sensory activity differentially modulates NMDA receptor subunits 2A and 2B in cortical layers" by Corson J, Nahmani M, Lubarsky K, Badr N, Wright C, Erisir A. The paper is published in Neuroscience. Congratulations on a productive summer! |
