Bavaro Hall will provide additional academic, research and clinical program space for the Curry School of Education. Completion is expected in 2010.
Project Update: August 24, 2009
On-going project activities include exterior brick veneer construction and window installation. At the interior of the building, future spaces are beginning to take shape with construction of room partition framing and mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins progress. Project Update: March 3, 2009
During the mornings of Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 traffic along Emmet Street near its intersection with McCormick Road will be reduced to one lane as a large crane is erected for the installation of steel at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education’s Bavaro Hall. The crane will remain on site until April.
Flag personnel will be on site to direct traffic. Each day, two-way traffic will resume during the afternoon and evening hours.
This work is weather dependant and subject to change.
Project Update: January 19, 2009
Concrete foundations are currently being poured while waterproofing of retaining walls and steel erection have just begun. The back filing of retaining walls will take place in February and steel will be "topped out" by the end of April.
The project is currently 19% complete.
Project Update: August 26, 2008
Drilling and utility work are underway and will continue through mid-October. The section of sidewalk along Emmet Street has been installed. The installation of structural concrete and the foundation will begin in November.
The project is currently 7% complete.
Project Update: Emmet Street Hydrant Installation - June 30, 2008
Traffic along Emmet Street at the construction site of the University of Virginia’s Bavaro Hall will be reduced to one lane from 6 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday, July 1, and Wednesday, July 2, to accommodate installation of a fire hydrant. Flag personnel will be onsite to direct traffic during these hours.
Project Update: Hydrant Installation - June 24, 2008
Beginning Wednesday, June 25, a short stretch of Emmet Street near the University of Virginia’s Bavaro Hall construction site will be reduced from three lanes to two to accommodate installation of a fire hydrant.
The southbound lane of Emmet Street will be cordoned off with concrete barriers from just north of the pedestrian bridge to the ramp at McCormick Road. Southbound traffic will be diverted into the center lane, while northbound traffic will continue in its normal lane.
The two traffic lanes will be divided by barrels with lights. Flag personnel will be stationed at the site during portions of the work.
The hydrant installation is expected to be complete by Tuesday, July 7, weather permitting.
Project Update: Temporary Sidewalk Closure
The section of sidewalk on the west side of Emmet Street adjacent to the Bavaro Hall construction site will close on Wednesday, June 18, to accommodate the installation of a stormwater drainage line for the project. Signs will direct pedestrians to the walkway along the colonnade at Ruffner Hall.
Jersey barriers will be used during the stormwater work and the sidewalk will remain closed through July.

Project Update: June 2008
Construction on Bavaro Hall, located between Ruffner Hall and Emmet Street has begun. On Wednesday, June 4, the installation of a water line across McCormick Road will take place. The road will remain open, and flag personnel will be on site for the duration of the work, which is expected to be completed on Wednesday.
Water line installation across the parking lot, which will block access to the back of the lot, is planned for Saturday, June 7.
On Monday, June 9, the Dell lot will close for re-grading, reopening the week of July 21.
The restriping of Emmet Street is scheduled for late June.
Significant excavation work is scheduled to begin in July, with foundation work beginning in August.
