South Lawn Project Update: September 2007

Workers are clearing an area on the north side of Jefferson Park Avenue to begin installing caissons as part of the foundation for the South Lawn terrace. Wood fencing is being erected around the construction area to help protect pedestrians and motorists. Installation of caissons on the south side of JPA is expected to be completed soon.

The boring for utilities under JPA is completed, but work continues during evening hours on installing an electric duct bank across JPA. Motorists using Jefferson Park Avenue between Emmet Street and Brandon Avenue are advised that traffic is reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. during this work, which is expected to last until Tuesday, Sept. 25. Flagmen assist emergency vehicles and traffic while JPA is reduced to one lane. During the day, the excavated areas are covered with steel plates so that traffic flows as normal.

Valley Road was closed to through traffic in mid-August.
