Residents Gain Update on U.Va. Medical Center Facilities- June 18, 2009
City residents gained an understanding of the U.Va. Health System’s plans for new facilities when Tom Harkins, Chief of Environment of Care at the U.Va. Medical Center, gave a presentation as part of the 10th and Page Neighborhood Association meeting on Tuesday, June 16, at 6 p.m. at the Hope Community Center.
Harkins explained that over the next two years, the Medical Center will undergo a number of changes that will help to provide enhanced care. One such project is expanding University Hospital to provide 72 new inpatient rooms – large rooms with the latest in technology.
Harkins, who oversees operations and fiscal and human resource management in numerous areas including facilities planning and capital development, also described the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, which will offer state-of-the-art care.
Another project he highlighted is the Barry and Bill Battle Building, which will consolidate children’s outpatient care services in one area.
The meeting, open to West Main Street merchants and residents of 10th and Page, Fifeville, and Jefferson Park Avenue neighborhoods, attracted nearly 20 people.
