Construction/ Renovation/ Utility Project Updates

Alderman Road Residences – Phase II
This project comprises two 6-story residence halls with a combined 460 beds, and an 8,000 square-foot commons building. Current project activities include preparation of building pads and installation of on-site utilities. Foundation construction is expected to begin soon. The project is expected to be completed in May 2011.

Baseball Stadium Expansion
The existing team facilities under the grandstand are being expanded to add visitors and officials locker rooms, team meeting space, a film room, a weight room, and equipment storage. The existing home-team locker room and batting cages are also being renovated. The expansion is expected to be completed by the first home game in the spring.
Claude Moore Medical Education Building
Construction of the Medical Education Building, located at the corner of Lane Road and Lancaster Way, is 68 percent complete. Masonry wall construction is nearly complete and installation of glazing is under way. The new 58,500 square-foot building will consolidate medical education programs currently scattered across Grounds in outdated facilities and create a central entrance to the School of Medicine. Completion is expected in May 2010.

Emily Couric Cancer Center
Construction of the Emily Couric Cancer Center, located at the corner of Lee Street and Jefferson Park Avenue, continues at about 40% complete. The new building is a five story, 150,000 square foot facility. The center will consolidate oncology treatment and diagnostic services currently located on various floors and building in the West Complex and University Hospital. Hospital Bed Expansion
Construction is currently at approximately 22 percent and owner occupancy of the new and renovated areas is scheduled for August 2011. Structural steel column reinforcement, steel erection and concrete decks for patient floors are complete. Mechanical, electrical, plumbing and interior partition rough-ins are underway. Installation of the curtain wall is scheduled to begin this month. The main hospital entry has been closed, with a new entry/exit layout implemented. The new entry/exit will be used throughout the construction.

Pavilion X
Restoration of the exterior of Pavilion X began this past spring. This historic preservation project is focused on returning the exterior of Pavilion X to its circa 1825 appearance. Highlights of the project include restoring the roofs over the student rooms to their original flat-roof appearance and replicating the nine-foot-tall parapet wall on the pavilion roof. Work to the student room roofs will be completed in early September. Column restoration and the pavilion parapet are scheduled for completion in early December.
