Construction/Renovation Project Updates
Bavaro Hall
Construction on Bavaro Hall, located between Ruffner Hall and Emmet Street is 19% complete. Concrete foundations are being poured and steel erection has begun. The new 65,000 square-foot building will provide additional academic, research and clinical program space for U.Va.’s Curry School of Education. Completion is expected in August 2010. Campbell Hall
A certificate of occupancy has been issued for the south and east additions of Campbell Hall. These additions provide the School of Architecture with approximately 20,000 square feet of new and renovated offices, classrooms and exhibition studios. Carter-Harrison Research Building
Construction of the Carter-Harrison building (MR-6) continues. Remaining exterior work is now mostly walkways and landscaping. Occupancy is scheduled for March. Emily Couric Cancer Center
Construction of the Emily Couric Cancer Center, located at the corner of Lee Street and Jefferson Park Avenue, has begun. The center will house all outpatient services for adults diagnosed with cancer. The center is expected to open in spring 2011.
On Saturday, January 31, and a portion of Sunday, February 1, Lee Street will be closed as a crane is assembled at the Cancer Center site. Signs and personnel will direct traffic as necessary. Hospital Bed Expansion
A Hospital Bed Expansion Project will add 72 private patient rooms and support areas to the front of University Hospital on Lee Street. Periodic interruption to pedestrian and vehicular travel is expected. For more project information, visit

Monroe Hall
Renovation of Monroe Hall is underway. The renovation includes the replacement of flooring, windows and HVAC systems. When complete, the building will have 10 classrooms and more than 70 offices for use by the College of Arts and Sciences. The project is expected to be complete in the summer. |
South Lawn
The brick installation on the South Building is nearing completion and will start on the North Building in two weeks. The new bus stop at JPA and Brandon Avenue is complete and operational. Work on interior duct, plumbing and sprinklers is ongoing. The windows are scheduled for installation in early February. The project is approximately 54 percent complete. Whitehead Road Projects
Work has begun for two U.Va. facilities, a College of Arts and Sciences Research Building and an Information Technology Engineering Building, that will be constructed along the north side of Whitehead Road. The buildings are key components in U.Va.’s emphasis on science and technology.
