Construction/Renovation Project Updates

 

Bavaro Hall

Construction on Bavaro Hall, located between Ruffner Hall and Emmet Street, continues.  Concrete foundations are being poured and steel erection is expected to begin in early January.   The new 65,000 square-foot building will provide additional academic, research and clinical program space for U.Va.’s Curry School of Education. Campbell Hall

A certificate of occupancy has been issued for the south and east additions of Campbell Hall.  These additions provide the School of Architecture with approximately 20,000 square feet of new and renovated offices, classrooms and exhibition studios. Carter-Harrison Research Building

Construction of the Carter-Harrison building (MR-6) continues. Work on the exterior shell of the building is nearing completion.  Occupancy is scheduled for March.  Crispell Drive at the South Garage has been paved and is open to traffic along the full length of the garage.   For more information, visit http://www.virginia.edu/architectoffice/pdf/Project_Report.pdf.

Emily Couric Cancer Center

Construction of the Emily Couric Cancer Center, located at the corner of Lee Street and Jefferson Park Avenue, has begun.  The center will house all outpatient services for adults diagnosed with cancer.  The center is expected to open in spring 2011.  For additional project details, visit http://fmweb.virginia.edu/fpc/FeaturedProjects/EmilyCouric/EmilyCouric.htm.

Monroe Hall

Renovation of Monroe Hall is underway.  The renovation includes the replacement of flooring, windows and HVAC systems.  When complete, the building will have 10 classrooms and more than 70 offices for use by the College of Arts and Sciences.  The project is expected to be complete in summer 2009.

South Lawn

Erection of the structural steel and wood formwork is complete over JPA with work continuing on the concrete decking that will support the terrace crossing.  The foundation walls for the terrace on the north side of JPA are complete as are the precast concrete panels for both buildings.  Work continues on the stone facing on the walls for the bus stop at the corner of JPA and Brandon Avenue.  The project is approximately 48 percent complete.  For more information, visit www.virginia.edu/communityrelations.
