Annual Presidential Address Examines Economic Challenges

University of Virginia President John T. Casteen III delivered the State of the University address on Wednesday, Feb. 4. School of Engineering Hosts Annual Open House

The U.Va. School of Engineering will host its free open house on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Thornton Hall. The open house provides an opportunity for the public to meet faculty and staff, interact with current students and tour the facilities. Virginia Festival of the Book Slated for March

The 15th Annual Virginia Festival of the Book will be held Wednesday, March 18, through Sunday, March 22. The festival, which honors book culture and promotes reading and literacy, offers five days of mostly free literacy events. To learn more, visit http://www.vabook.org/.

U.Va. Named to National Community Service Honor Roll

For the third time in four years, the Corporation for National and Community Service named U.Va. to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary efforts to help American communities. The highest federal recognition a school can receive, the Community Service Honor Roll cited U.Va. because more than 8,500 University students contributed 450,000 hours of service last year. Residents Participate in Electronics Recycling Event

U.Va. partnered with several local business and agencies to sponsor an electronics recycling event at Crutchfield's store in the Rio Hill Shopping Center on Saturday, Jan. 31. Area residents dropped off televisions, computers and other electronics, filling up more than eight tractor-trailer loads of materials. U.Va.’s Football Season Kicks Off Sept. 5

The Atlantic Coast Conference has released its 2009 football schedule. U.Va.’s regular season schedule features 12 Saturday games, including seven at home. U.Va.’s home games are listed below.
