Memorial Day Ceremony Set for Saturday, May 23
The Albemarle Rifles 19th Virginia Company B confederate re-enactment group will conduct its annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Confederate Cemetery, located near the Alderman and McCormick Road intersection, on Saturday, May 23. The ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m., includes an infantry salute and rifles that will fire three volleys. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will end with the firing of three musket volleys around 12:30 p.m. |

Reunions Weekend Slated for June
Increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic is expected as University of Virginia alumni return to Grounds for Reunions Weekend June 4 - June 7. Some planned outdoor activities that may include amplified sound are listed below.
- Friday, June 5, Dinner Reception, 6:30 to 10 p.m., multiple locations
- Friday, June 5, Band Party, 9:30 p.m. to midnight, Alderman Plaza
- Saturday, June 6, Class of 1989 Band Party, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., South End of the Lawn
- Saturday, June 6, Virginia Reunions Music Festival, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Alderman Plaza
- Saturday, June 6, Band Party, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Alumni Hall

Incoming Students Visit Grounds for Summer Orientation
Approximately 4,000 incoming first-year and transfer students are expected to attend U.Va. summer orientation sessions from June 22 to July 24. Theater Festival Announces 2009 Offerings
A kick-off party on June 13 at 8 p.m. will open the 2009 season of U.Va.’s Heritage Theater Festival. Construction of Ruffin Hall, the home of studio art, prevented the theater from hosting a festival last summer. This summer’s productions include “Oliver,” “On Golden Pond,” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” For show times and ticket information, visit http://www.uvahtf.org. |
Furniture Donation Continues Through May
The Sofa Shuffle, U.Va.’s Off-Grounds Furniture Donation Drive, completes its 2009 run on May 30. So far this year, hundreds of household items have been donated in support of local charities and area residents.
