Construction Begins on Two New U.Va. Facilities
Site preparation work is beginning for two U.Va. facilities, a College of Arts and Sciences Research Building and an Information Technology Engineering Building, that will be constructed along the north side of Whitehead Road. Lighting of the Lawn Slated for Dec. 4
The Eighth Annual Lighting of the Lawn at U.Va. will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4, beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the community. This year’s event is co-sponsored by several organizations including Alumni Hall (Class Councils), Vice President for Student Affairs, University Programs Council, and Student Council. Professor Reflects on Human Rights
Michael Joseph Smith, the Thomas C. Sorenson Professor of Political and Social Thought and associate professor of politics at U.Va., will reflect on the 60th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights at the Miller Center of Public Affairs on Monday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. Smith teaches courses on human rights, political thought and ethics and international relations, and won the All-University Teaching Award in 2002. Surplus Property Sales Go Online
To make purchasing surplus property easier, U.Va. has begun auctioning unneeded surplus property through an Internet sales site. New items are now posted almost daily. Composting Begins at University Dining Hall
On November 11, the first load of food waste was shipped from Observatory Hill Dining Hall to Panorama Pay-Dirt in Earlysville for composting. Through this ongoing effort, it is estimated that about 2.5 tons of wasted food will be diverted from area landfills each week.
